About the role

Senior Backend Software Engineer at Promise, building and scaling backend systems powering payment and financial services for government and utility clients. Focus on robust microservices, distributed systems, and cloud deployments (AWS/GCP) with a hands-on coding emphasis and mentorship responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement microservices that are robust, scalable, and efficient to support our payment and financial products.
  • Spend at least 60% of your time hands-on coding, ensuring high-quality and maintainable code.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and enhance the performance of our distributed systems to ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Collaborate with the infrastructure team to deploy and manage backend services on cloud platforms like AWS and GCP.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience developing production software, with a focus on backend systems.
  • Passion for building, operating, and debugging distributed systems at scale.
  • Experience in the payments or fintech industry is a plus.
  • Proficiency in microservices architecture and hands-on experience with relevant technologies.
  • Experience with Node.js is a plus.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and a passion for building and debugging large-scale distributed systems.
