About the role

Research Engineer roles focused on building large-scale ML systems, improving throughput and reliability, and contributing to machine learning research within Anthropic's mission-driven safety-oriented team.

Responsibilities

  • Touch all parts of code and infrastructure, including cluster reliability, throughput and efficiency improvements, running and designing scientific experiments, and improving dev tooling
  • Collaborate with researchers to understand research context and impact while writing code
  • Participate in pair programming and cross-team collaboration as part of a highly collaborative research group
  • Contribute to projects related to token-level attention, transformers, and language models as part of broader AI safety and alignment goals
  • Scale distributed training jobs, optimize ML systems, and develop tooling to support large-scale experiments from data collection to evaluation

Qualifications

  • Significant software engineering experience
  • Interest in learning more about machine learning research
  • Care about societal impacts of work
  • Strong candidates may have experience with high performance, large-scale ML systems, GPUs, Kubernetes, PyTorch, OS internals, language modeling with transformers, reinforcement learning, large-scale ETL
