About the role

Security Engineer who will lead Surge’s security and compliance efforts, contribute to backend engineering as we scale, and help build a platform powering major AI teams with high-trust security and governance.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain security and compliance programs (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR)
  • Lead internal risk assessments and manage external audits
  • Develop and enforce security policies, access controls, and monitoring systems
  • Ensure security best practices across our AWS environment and internal tooling
  • Contribute to backend engineering work, improving core systems and APIs

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in security engineering, compliance, or backend development
  • Experience managing SOC 2, ISO 27001, or GDPR audits and certification processes
  • Strong backend engineering skills (Python preferred) and familiarity with AWS security best practices
  • Comfortable writing policies and implementing technical controls
  • Pragmatic, hands-on mindset — ability to balance risk and speed in a startup environment
