About the role
Senior Software Engineer responsible for designing, building, and refining RL tasks and environments for training and evaluating coding models, owning full lifecycle from ideation to grading and iteration in high-ownership, independent work.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and refine RL tasks, owning the full lifecycle from ideation through grading, failure analysis, and iteration
- Work on the most complex tasks: environments involving multi-step workflows, realistic stakeholder interactions, large codebases with real conventions and technical debt, or challenging system design problems
- Use coding agents heavily, directing them, evaluating their output, and identifying subtle failure modes
- Contribute to shared infrastructure and tooling
- Mentor newer team members (possible)
Qualifications
- Deep software engineering experience across multiple domains
- Strong intuition for AI model behavior
- Ability to anticipate model shortcuts and distinguish genuine capability gaps from grader issues
- Experience designing tasks targeting deeper, more subtle failure modes in areas such as infrastructure, distributed systems, performance, security, or other specializations
- Deep expertise in at least one area of software engineering
- Proficiency in Python
- Ability to work independently on complex, ambiguous problems
- Extensive experience working with coding agents
- No mandatory prior ML/AI experience required
