About the role

Software Engineer role at Retool, a fast-growing YC startup building a development platform for internal tools. Full-time position based in San Francisco, with US visa eligibility limited to US citizens/visa holders.

Responsibilities

  • - Improve the UX of the Retool core editor and tackle technical/product challenges (e.g., drag-and-drop system performance, component management during dragging)
  • - Expand the types of applications that can be built across the development process
  • - Debug customer problems and build features (e.g., Google Sheets integration enhancements)
  • - Help assess and recruit future engineers
  • - Increase the scalability of Retool’s platform (frontend performance, reduce query latencies)

Qualifications

  • - 3+ years experience in professional software development, ideally in startups
  • - Experience owning technically challenging cross-functional projects
  • - End-to-end experience across backend to frontend (full-stack)
  • - Experience with cloud-based infrastructure (Azure, AWS or GCP)
  • - Ability to make technical decisions quickly with stakeholders
  • - Customer-first mindset with ability to talk with customers to ensure needs are met
  • - Habit of introspection and learning from past successes
