About the role

Production Engineers (PEs) at Meta develop the underlying infrastructure for Meta’s products and services, ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability at massive scale. They work across product and infrastructure teams on code and systems in production, contributing to services used by billions of people.

Responsibilities

  • Own back-end services which handle fleet management, front-end services such as WhatsApp / Instagram / Facebook / Meta Ads, infrastructure components that drive Meta’s advances in AI, core services used by every team at Meta, large MySQL deployments, networking systems and related components
  • Write and review code, leverage AI tools to land and productionize code, develop documentation and capacity plans, and debug complex live production problems
  • Share an on-call rotation with the engineering team and act as escalation contact for service incidents
  • Partner with other engineers on production systems used by billions of people
  • Analyze and optimize code for quality, scalability, efficiency, and performance
  • Establish ownership of systems with end-to-end understanding
  • Lead by example, mentor others, and multiply impact across the team

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in Unix/Linux and networking fundamentals
  • 7+ years of coding experience in an industry-standard language (e.g. Java, Python, C++, PHP/Hack, Rust, Go)
  • Experience learning software, frameworks and APIs
  • Experience with Internet service architecture capacity planning and/or urgent capacity augmentation
  • Knowledge of web technologies and/or Internet service architectures (e.g., LAMP/MEAN, CDN, Load Balancing)
  • Experience configuring and running infrastructure-level applications (e.g., Kubernetes, Terraform, MySQL)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
