About the role

Meta is seeking a Network Operations Engineer with SME in hyperscale DC structured cabling, fiber connectivity, and IP networking to support field services within the Edge and Network Services (ENS) team. The role focuses on developing and implementing strategies with internal and external partners to integrate new technologies, improve operational efficiency, and automate network operations across global sites.

Responsibilities

  • Incident Response: Drive work investigating complex technical and process issues on a global scale spanning multiple reliability, security, and continuity disciplines for infra during major incidents/site events (SEVs) on edge, caching, and network infrastructure. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, MSPs, and third-party vendors.
  • Change Management: Identify problems and implement effective changes within security and business continuity affecting the network, edge, and infrastructure.
  • Operational Experience: Drive operational efficiency, oversee a large contingent workforce, identify opportunities to improve policies and processes, and optimize service delivery with standards compliance.
  • Team Leadership: Set team goals, work with cross-functional teams globally, analyze operational datasets, and communicate aligned projects and roadmaps.
  • Risk Management: Design and implement processes to identify and manage data and asset protection risks and continuity issues.
  • Information and Data Assurance: Ensure documentation and data supporting operations are complete and accurate.
  • Automation: Drive opportunities to automate operational events and implement light-weight solutions in code.
  • Data Measurement: Define and evolve metrics to drive quality, efficiency, cost, and timeliness across infrastructure and vendors.
  • Communication: Provide clear updates on goals, progress, and outcomes across the assigned scope.
  • Travel: Domestic and international travel may be required up to 50% depending on business needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience (degree completed prior to joining Meta).
  • 4+ years of experience operating, deploying, and designing large-scale network, optical, and/or physical layer infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with optical/network equipment (optical amplifiers, coherent transponders, WDM gear, testing equipment).
  • 4+ years of network operations experience supporting large-scale service provider, datacenter, or enterprise networks.
  • Experience engaging with hardware vendors, service providers, and colocation facilities globally; ability to translate performance issues into engineering requirements.
  • Experience providing technical guidance to external vendors.
  • Intermediate SME in Network Services (topology, traffic analysis, hardware, architectures).
  • 4+ years in terrestrial optical transport networks (DWDM, optical testing/measurement, structured cabling, photonic layer).
  • SME in physical infrastructure design (rack elevations, cable types, connectors, optic types, patch panels, facility infrastructure).
  • Familiarity with Enterprise and Service Provider hardware platforms (Cisco, Juniper, Nexus data center switching).
  • Experience with physical data center design (rack elevations, cabling, fiber optics, power/cooling, facility infrastructure).
  • Experience with network hardware platforms/architectures (Ciena, Infinera, Nokia, Arista, Cisco WDM).
