About the role

Senior leadership role focused on applying causal inference and AI to understand guest behavior and personalize discovery in Airbnb’s Guest Experience (Search, Discovery, Merchandising). Leads methodologies to identify guest preferences, shapes data strategy, and collaborates with product and engineering to optimize in-app UX and engagement across Homes, Experiences, and Services.

Responsibilities

  • Learn: Analyze guest navigation and re-engagement using granular user action and sequence data.
  • Partner: Collaborate with product and engineering to develop frameworks for detecting revealed preferences and reducing online frictions.
  • Build: Develop prototypes and data artefacts to quantify guest preferences using AI toolkits.
  • Evaluate: Test assumptions, measure efficacy, and run experiments with data feedback loops to drive continuous impact.
  • Influence: Present findings and recommendations to leadership to inform strategy and cross-functional deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Econometrics or related field.
  • 9+ years of industry experience with a PhD (or 12+ years with a Masters).
  • Causal inference expertise with marketplace experience.
  • Preferred domain experience in search, UX discovery, personalized evidence systems.
  • Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis; familiarity with SQL; ability to develop proof-of-concept prototypes.
  • Strong communication with cross-functional partners (product, engineering, design) to enable data-driven product development focused on user experience.
  • Proven ability to work both collaboratively and independently; demonstrated engagement with the technical community.

  • Base pay range: $224,000—$280,000 USD.
