About the role

Manufacturing Engineer on 1st Shift responsible for mechanical design, DFA/DFM, tooling and fixture design, and the development of repeatable assembly lines to scale defense hardware from prototype to production.

Responsibilities

  • Design for Assembly & Manufacturability (DFA/DFM): Embed with Mechanical Design Engineering during early R&D phases to influence product architecture, drive part reduction, standard fastener consolidation, and modular sub-assembly design.
  • Conductor tolerance analyses (1D/2D worst-case and RSS) to ensure assemble-ability of interfaces and datums.
  • Define hardware assembly strategies, joint clamping designs, TIM applications, structural bonding, and torque sequencing early in CAD development.
  • Tooling, Jigs, & Assembly Fixture Design: End-to-end mechanical design of production tooling (precision jigs, alignment nests, press-fit tooling, ergonomic lift/handling equipment, verification fixtures) using 3D CAD (NX or SolidWorks).
  • FEA validation for fixture rigidity and stress, and detailed 2D fabrication drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
  • Mechanical Assembly Process Engineering: Line architecture, takt times, line layouts, ergonomic workstations; fastening processes and torque-tension specs; adhesives, sealing, TIM dispensing; precision alignment and calibration; error-proofing (Poka-Yoke) and smart-tool integration; SOPs and digital work instructions.
  • NPI Ramp, Sustainment, & Root Cause Analysis: Technical disposition and 8D/5-Whys/Fishbone investigations; convert Engineering BOMs to modular mBOMs in PLM (Teamcenter); author and implement ECOs/ECRs.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or closely related field
  • 3+ years in manufacturing or mechanical design with heavy exposure to assembly and hardware integration (aerospace/defense/automotive/dynamic robotics/precision industrial hardware)
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (Siemens NX strongly preferred; SolidWorks, CATIA, or Creo acceptable) with portfolio of tooling/fixtures
  • Advanced working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T for datum reference frames, tolerance analysis, and inspection of mating parts
  • Deep understanding of mechanical assembly techniques (threaded fasteners, interference/press fits, bonding, torque-tension monitoring, shimming, alignment)
  • Experience conducting tolerance stack-up analyses and applying DFA/DFM to assemblies
  • Strong mechanical problem-solving grounded in first-principles physics (mechanics of materials, kinematics, statics)
  • U.S. Person status (export-controlled data)

Skills

Required:3D CAD modelingASME Y14.5 GD&TTolerance stack-up analysisTooling & fixture design
Nice to have:NPI / ramp to production

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits package available at little to no cost to employees (health, recovery, and more)
  • Equity grants in the majority of full-time offers as part of total compensation
  • Competitive salary range and top-tier benefits for full-time employees
