About the role

The HR Director at Welo Data is a senior management leader responsible for the organizational development, HR infrastructure, and compliance framework of the company's global workforce, with a focus on legal compliance, organizational effectiveness, and HR strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive Welo Data’s people strategy in alignment with business objectives and the 4 Pillars framework.
  • Serve as the primary HR authority and strategic partner to the leadership team, providing counsel on org design, people risk, employment law, and workforce structure across all geographies.
  • Build a scalable, fit-for-purpose HR function for a growing AI data services business — including policies, governance frameworks, and operational processes.
  • Partner closely with the Head of Talent to ensure staffing programs and workforce plans are legally compliant across jurisdictions.
  • Own compliance architecture for staffing programs, including co-employment risk management, worker classification, and third-party service delivery structures.
  • Review and advise on high-volume staffing program design for managed services clients.
  • Translate workforce expansion plans into compliant organizational structures.
  • Maintain current regulatory intelligence and advise leadership accordingly.
  • Lead org design and organizational effectiveness initiatives, including role architecture, job family structures, spans and layers analysis, headcount modeling.
  • Drive the design and implementation of the future-state people operating model, including global HR team structure and processes.
  • Champion employee engagement, culture, and retention programs.
  • Identify organizational risks and collaborate on solutions.
  • Partner on workforce cost modeling, headcount planning, and organizational change.
  • Oversee HR operations globally including onboarding, offboarding, contracts, payroll, and benefits.
  • Ensure HRIS data integrity and audit compliance.
  • Establish HR policies and employee handbooks respecting local employment laws.
  • Deliver accurate workforce reporting.
  • Serve as escalations point for complex employee relations and legal compliance matters.
  • Advise managers on legal and performance issues, ensuring consistency across geographies.
  • Maintain statutory compliance obligations including employment contracts, reporting, and filings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Employment Law, Business Administration.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive HR experience, including 4–5 years in a senior HR role with multi-country responsibility.
  • Deep expertise in multi-jurisdictional employment law, including California labor law, multi-state US compliance, EU law, and familiarity with India and Japan employment law.
  • Experience structuring staffing programs in managed services or BPO environments, including co-employment risk management.
  • Proven organizational development skills: org design, job architecture, spans/layers analysis.
  • Experience working with a dedicated Talent Acquisition team.
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms (Workday preferred).
  • Ability to operate strategically and tactically.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • High professionalism, integrity, and discretion.
