About the role

Design and build core cloud systems powering autonomous drone operations at scale. Full-stack role developing on Skydio Cloud (Python/Go backend, TypeScript/React frontend) with occasional drone-side software; collaborate cross-functionally to shape platform architecture and deliver end-to-end features.

Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve Skydio Cloud’s core data models, APIs, and services for drones, docks, users, missions, and telemetry/video/geospatial data
  • Build and maintain core fleet management capabilities (real-time fleet health, over-the-air updates, asset/media management, security and permissions, user/device management, fleet-scale observability)
  • Develop geospatial and mission-planning systems for advanced aerial missions, visualization of spatial datasets, autonomous drone operation
  • Design secure, scalable, and highly observable systems handling petabytes of real-time data and video from distributed drone fleets
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Backend Infrastructure, and Field teams to iterate and deliver features
  • Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, code reviews, and proofs-of-concept
  • Participate in rotating on-call schedule to ensure platform reliability (incidents are rare)

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience building full-stack software systems
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, React, GraphQL, Python, and AWS or similar cloud platforms
  • Demonstrated systems thinking with end-to-end design, performance, reliability, testing, and observability
  • Experience building secure, scalable, enterprise-grade cloud applications and APIs
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Temporal or similar tooling
  • Strong product instincts and ability to turn ambiguous problems into reliable customer-facing solutions
  • FAA Part 107 certification within 60 days strongly encouraged and required for certain roles
