About the role

Experienced backend/platform engineer role within Anthropic's Platform organization focused on building foundational primitives, infrastructure, and cross-cloud capabilities to enable scalable product development for internal teams and external users.

Responsibilities

  • Service Infra: build and maintain core infrastructure powering Anthropic's engineering organization, including service mesh, observability, deployment pipelines, and shared libraries.
  • Platform Portability: develop cloud-agnostic tooling, cross-cloud networking, and multi-region deployments to operate across multiple cloud providers.
  • Platform Intelligence: own performance, reliability, and efficiency of the Claude API serving path, partnering with inference and safeguards to optimize full stack.
  • Billing Platform: build and operate the infrastructure turning product usage into revenue across Claude.ai, Developer Platform, Claude Code, and future products; potentially working on integration contracts, quote-to-cash automation, reconciliation and data foundations, in collaboration with Finance, Product, Sales, and Accounting.
  • Platform Serving: transform Claude into a knowledge worker by enabling data access and retrieval while securely processing information; partner with research to implement retrieval advancements.
  • Agentic Systems: build APIs and infrastructure for agentic applications on Claude API, including Claude Managed Agents; cover primitives like tool use, multi-step reasoning, durable sessions, long-running tasks, and production-ready deployment for enterprises.
  • Auth & Identity: maintain authentication/authorization infrastructure, SSO, RBAC, and identity management across Anthropic products, collaborating with product teams, security, and trust & safety.
  • Platform Safety: develop identity and verification primitives for safe model launches, collaborating with Safeguards, Auth & Identity, Policy, and Product teams across APIs and platforms.

Qualifications

  • Have a minimum of 8 years of practical experience as a backend or platform engineer building scalable distributed systems, ideally at tech lead level or equivalent
  • Experience with distributed systems, cloud-native products, developer tools, or external developer facing products
  • Strong fundamentals in service-oriented architectures, networking, and systems design; ownership of technical vision and end-to-end execution of a foundational platform system
  • Proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, or similar systems languages
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or Azure), Kubernetes, and/or multi-cloud networking
  • Ability to take full ownership from design through deployment and operations
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and making independent technical decisions; experience in 0 to 1 and mature team/company settings
  • Product-focused approach to platform work; building robust, scalable, easy-to-use systems
  • Desire to build systems that engineers love to use
