About the role

Legal partner to multiple business functions in Japan, providing practical, business-oriented legal advice across regulatory, consumer protection, competition, marketing, employment, privacy, dispute resolution, and law enforcement matters. Based in Japan with frequent collaboration across Airbnb’s regional and global legal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an effective and trusted partner to the fast-paced Airbnb team.
  • Deliver clear, effective and practical legal advice to business functions including business development, public policy, marketing and communications.
  • Provide legal advice on regulatory matters, consumer protection, competition, marketing, employment, privacy, dispute resolution, and law enforcement.
  • Make sensible legal risk assessments and propose practical solutions to mitigate risk while prioritizing business needs.

Qualifications

  • Qualification in Japan (as bengoshi) is a must.
  • Native-level command of Japanese (written and spoken) is a must.
  • Business-level English (written and spoken) is essential. High scores in TOEIC/TOEFL a plus.
  • Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience - in-house (including secondment from a law firm) in an MNC and/or start-up is a plus.
