About the role

Forward Deployed Engineer embedded with Sphere's strategic customers to understand cross-border workflows, identify high-impact compliance challenges, and design/deliver custom solutions that integrate Sphere into customer operations.

Responsibilities

  • Onboard customers pre-contract and get accounts functional in Sphere
  • Navigate customer billing system integrations
  • Pull and interpret liability reports and help customers understand exposure
  • Guide clients through understanding and managing global tax liability
  • Guide customers through VAT ID collection, address hygiene, and regional compliance
  • Bridge between customer needs and the engineering roadmap
  • Ensure Sphere is integral to the customer’s revenue compliance needs
  • Research new compliance requirements end-to-end (e-invoicing, input tax, etc.)
  • Identify patterns across customers for recurring custom work
  • Scope and write tight technical PRDs/proposals for core engineering
  • Build custom features and integrations on top of the Sphere platform for key accounts
  • Identify custom builds that could be scaled and deployed as new features or products

Qualifications

  • Experience in an FDE or customer-facing engineering role
  • Experience executing and shipping bespoke customer features end-to-end
  • Ownership: able to take a problem from ambiguous to shipped without direction
  • Relentlessly curious and able to seek answers proactively
  • Strong communication skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Customer obsession within finance domain (controllers, heads of finance/tax)
  • Very strong attention to detail with numbers
