About the role

Senior Staff Engineer role focused on developing AI-powered, agentic growth platforms at Airbnb. Leads technical depth, architectural thinking, and mentorship to build scalable ML/AI products and foundations for personalized, autonomous growth experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Develop AI-powered solutions to shape the Airbnb agentic growth platform from inception to production
  • Lead and mentor engineers to brainstorm, design, and develop AI products and features
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build resilient, globally scalable systems
  • Produce AI/ML models and pipelines for product, business, and operations use cases at scale
  • Leverage internal and external ML tools to enable fast model development, low-latency serving, and maintain model quality
  • Apply ML/AI in solutions to validate ideas and guide outcomes
  • Partner with foundations engineering to make ML/AI a core discipline for non-ML engineers
  • Work on AI-powered content generation, ML/AI orchestration for decisioning, and proactive marketing agent projects
  • Engage in data exploration and experimentation with large-scale structured and unstructured data
  • Drive engineering decisions and requirements prioritization for ML initiatives
  • Provide architectural guidance for APIs, data pipelines, and high-volume ML systems

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of industry experience in applied ML/AI
  • MS or PhD in a relevant field
  • Strong programming skills (Scala, Python, Java, C++, or equivalent)
  • Deep understanding of ML/AI best practices and algorithms (NLP, CV, personalization, search and recommendation, anomaly detection)
  • Experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, Kubernetes, Airflow (or equivalents), Kafka (or equivalents)
  • Expertise with scalable architecture patterns for large software applications
  • Experience with training/serving skew minimization, A/B testing, feature engineering, feature/model selection
  • Ability to design and operate ML systems at scale
