About the role

Automation & Controls Engineer for facilities at SpaceX based in Hawthorne, CA. Designs, builds, and commissions automated control systems for production, R&D, and critical infrastructure within the critical infrastructure team.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and balance specs, requirements, layout, cost, and lead-time
  • Lay out new industrial electrical control panels compliant with NFPA79/NEC/UL508A and create electrical, pneumatic and fluid schematics
  • Simulate processes to inform design viability (tools: ABB Robotstudio, Kuka Sim, Siemens Process Simulate)
  • Architect, write, and debug PLC code optimized for manufacturing use (organized, documented, maintainable, reusable)
  • Generate simple screens for complex machinery with adequate troubleshooting feedback
  • Manage electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, pneumatic and fluid plumbing
  • Select and size electrical and electromechanical components (e.g., servo motors, controllers)
  • Deploy automated processes and equipment into production
  • Set, implement, and maintain schedules and budgets to ensure project completion

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of professional experience in design and commissioning of automation and controls systems for industrial applications
