About the role

Senior engineer role within WeTravel's Payments team focused on building and scaling payments capabilities, including collection, disbursement, FX, reconciliation, and card issuing, with a strong emphasis on reliability, multi-currency support, and local payment method expansion.

Responsibilities

  • Lead payments projects end-to-end: discovery with Product and PayOps teams, integration design with PSPs, build, rollout, monitoring, and incident response
  • Partner with Product team to understand organizer/traveler challenges and build payment solutions
  • Own the reliability of the payments system
  • Contribute to WeTravel’s engineering practices and excellence

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of product engineering experience, with 4+ years in architecting complex payments systems
  • Proven track record within PSPs, acquirers, gateways, or high-scale payments teams
  • Deep expertise in settlement, reconciliation, dispute management, 3DS2, webhook management, and PCI compliance (tokenization)
  • Strong backend skills in Ruby on Rails, Kotlin, Python, Go, Java, or Node.js (able to ramp on Ruby)
  • Full-stack capability to build React interfaces for payment flows
  • Experience architecting robust distributed systems (double-entry ledgers, reconciliation pipelines, money movement state machines, idempotency, exactly-once semantics, event-driven architectures)
  • Direct production on-call experience with post-mortems and incident response
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration in a distributed, multicultural environment
  • Pragmatic use of AI tools and ability to mentor others on AI concepts
  • Cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), containers, and modern CI/CD
  • Ability to handle FX and multi-currency logic within application layer
  • Bonus: direct card issuing experience (BIN sponsorship, processor integrations, controls, disputes)
