About the role
Senior Mechanical Engineer to own design, development, and implementation of production tooling for advanced solid rocket motors within Anduril’s Production Engineering Team.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of specialized manufacturing tooling for solid rocket motors, from initial concept and detailed design through prototyping, validation, full release, and implementation on the factory floor.
- Serve as the design authority for tooling including jigs, fixtures, molds (propellant casting, insulation, etc.), assembly aids, test fixtures, and ground support equipment for SRM production.
- Leverage CAD, engineering analysis (FEA, DFM, DFA), and simulation to ensure tooling is robust, repeatable, ergonomic, and optimized for high-rate manufacturing.
- Own prototyping and validation phases: fabrication, assembly, testing, and iterative design improvements.
- Create documentation packages, work instructions, maintenance procedures, and quality control plans for owned tooling during production release.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams, quality engineers, and external vendors to define tooling requirements, manage fabrication, troubleshoot, and improve tooling performance and lifespan.
- Apply DFM and DFA principles to product and tooling designs to enable scalable production processes.
- Act as primary technical resource for tooling, providing guidance and problem-solving across the manufacturing value chain.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 3-8+ years in mechanical engineering with focus on manufacturing or production engineering
- Proven ownership of mechanical design projects from concept to full production release and implementation
- Direct experience designing, prototyping, and implementing production-grade tooling (jigs, fixtures, molds, assembly aids, test fixtures)
- Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, NX, CATIA) and experience with FEA for mechanical analysis and design validation
- Strong understanding of DFM and DFA for product and tooling designs
- Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, welding, additive manufacturing, casting, composite fabrication) and tooling applications
- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
