About the role
Open-Source Machine Learning Engineer at Hugging Face focusing on improving the open-source ML ecosystem, primarily working on Transformers, Datasets, PyTorch, and vLLM, with interaction across a global community of users and contributors.
Responsibilities
- Improve the open-source machine learning ecosystem by working on existing open-source libraries (Transformers, Datasets, PyTorch, vLLM)
- Interact with users and contributors across the open-source ML community
- Collaborate with researchers, ML practitioners, and data scientists via GitHub, forums, and Slack
- Brainstorm with the team to align work with personal interests and high impact
- Foster an active ML community by helping users contribute to and use the tools built
Qualifications
- Public track record of open-source work
- Experience collaborating with a community on GitHub
- Love for open source and making complex tech accessible
- Strong Python skills with clean, well-tested library code
- Deep hands-on experience with a modern deep-learning framework (PyTorch preferred; JAX or TensorFlow a plus)
- Experience with Hugging Face open-source stack (Transformers, Datasets, Accelerate) or comparable ML libraries
- Public open-source contributions (e.g., merged PRs) on GitHub
- Solid understanding of modern ML/DL, including transformer architectures
- Experience collaborating with a technical community in the open (GitHub issues/reviews, forums, Slack/Discord)
- Fluent written English for asynchronous collaboration
