About the role

Senior engineer to own a large part of Hugging Face's open voice-agent stack, focusing on speech-to-speech and hf-voice product development, open-source library ownership, and open collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Own architectural design and delivery for large parts of speech-to-speech, including pipeline design, latency budgets, and reliability of the realtime loop.
  • Integrate new ASR, TTS and end-to-end speech models while maintaining clean abstractions as the model landscape evolves.
  • Review community PRs, triage issues, cut releases, and grow the contributor community around the project.
  • Design the developer API and streaming protocol for hf-voice, including session lifecycle, transport (WebSockets/WebRTC), authentication, error semantics, and versioning.
  • Build the serving side with realtime GPU inference, concurrency, autoscaling, observability, and cost per session.
  • Collaborate with Hub and inference teams to ease product integration and demos.
  • Take the product from demo to production with load testing, SLOs, and graceful degradation strategies.
  • Write docs, examples, and templates to enable developers to run agents quickly.
  • Support existing deployments relying on the stack, starting with Reachy Mini fleet.
  • Share work publicly through blog posts, demos, and conference talks.

Qualifications

  • Senior engineer capable of owning a substantial part of an architecture and driving it autonomously.
  • Experience building developer-facing infrastructure at an AI or developer-tools company (inference APIs, agent infrastructure, or equivalent).
  • Substantial open-source contributions to a Python library; comfortable with asynchronous Python and distributed systems and their failure modes.
  • Shipped something realtime: streaming, WebSockets or WebRTC, audio or video pipelines, or live inference.
  • Practical experience with LLMs or multimodal models in production; strong written communication and async/public collaboration.
  • Motivation for voice and conversational AI.
