About the role

Founding Engineer role at Wildcard, a YC-funded startup building an agentic commerce optimization platform for ecommerce and retail brands. The engineer will be the first technical hire, owning product and infrastructure end to end (frontend, backend, queues, automation, reliability, and customer-facing features) and directly shaping the company from the outset.

Responsibilities

  • Frontend and backend development across the stack
  • Queues, retries, observability, and workflow orchestration
  • Browser automation, retrieval infrastructure, and agentic commerce tooling
  • Building incrementality and attribution systems tied to revenue outcomes
  • Shipping customer-driven features quickly with appropriate speed/quality tradeoffs
  • Direct collaboration with customers and involvement in critical product decisions
  • Owns product decisions, architecture, and prioritization in a fast-moving environment

Qualifications

  • Has prior founding experience, or was early at a Seed, Series A, Series B, or similarly fast-moving company
  • Strong full-stack experience and ability to ship independently across the stack
  • High-agency, self-directed, able to turn ambiguity into shipped product
  • Expert-level with AI coding tools and ability to move significantly faster using AI judiciously
  • Strong judgment on when to use AI and when not to
  • Ability to move fast, focus on outcomes, and do more with less
  • Ability to bring new ideas constantly and prioritize granularly
  • Resilience through changing priorities, new information, and mini-pivots
  • Willingness to own multiple roles and work with customers in tight feedback loops
  • High schlep tolerance and readiness for unglamorous work when it moves the business forward
  • Ability to push back, think independently, and still move quickly
