About the role

Senior engineer responsible for building and owning the systems powering Magical's AI agents and healthcare automations, setting technical direction, and delivering end-to-end ownership of core platforms and workflows in a hybrid Toronto-based role.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build backend and full-stack systems for AI agents and healthcare automations
  • Set technical direction within a project or product area, especially when requirements are ambiguous
  • Build features for automation creation, workflow pathways, testing, editing, and production run reporting
  • Improve runtime reliability through systems for run state management, queues, idempotency, error classification, alerts, and dashboards
  • Own critical services from architecture through deployment, monitoring, and iteration

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • Built and owned backend systems deployed in production
  • Ability to turn ambiguous product requirements into a clear technical plan
  • Strong systems design skills—distributed systems, databases, APIs, queues, async workflows, and observability
  • Experience integrating AI tools into development workflow and willingness to experiment with new approaches
  • Strong bias for action—ship, learn, prioritize ruthlessly, iterate quickly
  • Takes full ownership of systems and enjoys mentoring teammates
