About the role

AI Research Engineer focusing on reinforcement learning for autonomous aerial platforms, delivering state-of-the-art RL agents and integrating them into flight-ready systems as part of Helsing’s Centaur and CA-1 Europa projects.

Responsibilities

  • Build the autonomy brain for a cutting-edge autonomous aerial platform.
  • Develop and integrate state-of-the-art reinforcement learning agents into operational systems of the CA-1 Europa UCAV as part of the Centaur project.
  • Own the full pipeline from large-scale simulation training through to real-time deployment on flight-ready hardware.

Qualifications

  • MSc in Reinforcement Learning, Robotics, Automation and Control, or a closely related field with a strong focus on sequential decision-making and autonomous systems.
  • Hands-on experience building, training, and deploying reinforcement learning agents, with real-world operational reliability beyond simulation.
  • Deep familiarity with modern RL and multi-agent RL techniques (e.g., model-free methods like PPO, SAC; population-based training; partial observability; long horizons).
  • Experience integrating RL policies into high-performance runtime systems with awareness of latency/throughput constraints for real-time autonomy.
  • Solid software engineering skills (Python; Rust or modern C++); experience deploying AI software to production including testing, QA, and monitoring.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to report and present research findings clearly.
