About the role

Role focused on designing, training and deploying reinforcement learning–based controllers for autonomous robots operating in complex real-world environments, with end-to-end responsibility from simulation to deployment under tight hardware constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Design, training and deployment of RL-based controllers for robots in unstructured dynamic environments
  • Enable robots to perceive and understand surroundings by fusing rich sensory inputs (including vision) to inform robust control
  • Own the full pipeline from simulation to deployment, ensuring learned policies are robust and efficient for real-world operation under hardware constraints

Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Robotics, Machine Learning, Control Engineering, or related field with focus on reinforcement learning and robot control
  • Hands-on experience training and deploying RL-based controllers on real robotic hardware
  • Strong knowledge of modern RL techniques for continuous control (e.g., PPO, SAC, TD3; model-based RL; hierarchical RL; sim-to-real transfer; domain randomisation; curriculum learning)
  • Solid understanding of robot dynamics, kinematics, and classical control theory (PID, MPC, trajectory optimisation)
  • Proficiency with physics-based simulators (MuJoCo, Isaac Gym/Isaac Lab, PyBullet, Gazebo)
  • Solid software engineering skills in Python and/or Rust/C++, and experience deploying AI software to production (testing, QA, monitoring)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to report research findings clearly
  • Interest in staying up-to-date with current research and re-implementing/extending state-of-the-art papers
