About the role

Software Engineer role at Helsing, a defence AI company in Europe, focused on building AI-based capabilities, infrastructure, and software for semi-autonomous platforms under high-stakes conditions. Emphasis on reliability, collaboration, and contributing across a wide stack and domains including distributed systems, embedded computing, robotics, networking, deployment, security, and ML.

Responsibilities

  • Review code contributions, proposals, and RFCs from colleagues.
  • Propose and implement new features, capabilities, algorithms, infrastructure, or full products across the stack.
  • Mentor and support interview pipeline.
  • Share knowledge through tech talks and office hours.
  • Maintain existing software stack and collaborate with customers to identify issues, improve reliability and performance, manage technical debt.
  • Develop tests and benchmarks at micro and macro levels.
  • Present work at weekly demo sessions.

Qualifications

  • Can write legible, maintainable, and performant code.
  • Communicate well in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Enjoy collaborating with others, including reviewing code and pair programming.
  • Are comfortable working asynchronously (writing PRs and RFCs, discussions by email).
  • Have backend development experience, ideally with Rust, Java, Go, or C++.
  • Are familiar with backend interface tools like REST, GraphQL, gRPC/Protocol Buffers, and Arrow.
  • Strive to improve yourself, peers, and the culture you work in over time.
  • Feel like ethical considerations are an inherent part of engineering.
