About the role

Software engineer role focused on building the higher-level mission control foundation for Helsing’s autonomous aerial platform (UCAV CA-1 Europa), including real-time sensor processing, secure communication, autonomous decision-making interfaces, and integration with flight control systems.

Responsibilities

  • - Review code contributions, proposals, and RFCs ensuring robustness and safety/performance for airborne applications.
  • - Propose and implement new features, capabilities, algorithms, infrastructure, or full products across the stack to enhance airborne mission systems.
  • - Become a mentor and support the interviewing pipeline.
  • - Share knowledge through tech talks and learning groups.
  • - Maintain existing software stack, improve reliability/performance, engage with customers to identify issues, manage technical debt.
  • - Develop tests and benchmarks, including hardware-in-the-loop simulations and flight testing.
  • - Present work at weekly demo sessions to gather feedback and align on progress.

Qualifications

  • - Legible, maintainable, and performant code.
  • - Strong English communication (oral and written).
  • - Collaborative culture with code reviews and pair programming in complex system architectures with hardware-software integration.
  • - Comfortable working asynchronously (PRs and RFCs via email).
  • - Strong backend or embedded development experience, preferably in Rust, Go, or C++.
  • - Experience with distributed systems.
  • - Commitment to personal and peer improvement and ethical engineering practices.
