Software Engineer - Frontend Autonomous Air System V&V

About the role

Frontend-focused software engineer role within Helsing's Autonomous Air System V&V team, building and maintaining frontend UIs and data visualizations for simulation, validation, and human-autonomy interaction in a defence AI context.

Responsibilities

  • Review code contributions, proposals, and RFCs from colleagues.
  • Own the user interface end-to-end, from early wireframes and prototypes through to production-ready code.
  • Propose and implement new features, capabilities, visualizations, or even full products across our stack.
  • Translate complex technical data into usable interfaces (simulation outputs, test results, AI behavior data).
  • Establish and evolve our component library for consistency across front-ends.
  • Mentor colleagues and support the interviewing pipeline.
  • Share knowledge through tech talks and learning groups.
  • Collaborate with backend systems (Rust) to unblock and improve integrations.
  • Develop tests and benchmarks at micro and macro levels.
  • Present work at weekly demo sessions.

Qualifications

  • Strong frontend design and coding experience with JavaScript.
  • State-of-the-art experience with React.
  • Enjoy designing for technical products and data-heavy UIs with user research and prototyping skills.
  • Experienced with APIs and server-client communication like REST and GraphQL.
  • Comfortable with unfamiliar backends, ideally with Rust exposure.
  • Write legible, maintainable, and performant code.
  • English communication (verbal and written).
  • Collaborative, code-review and pair programming mindset.
  • Comfortable working asynchronously (PRs, RFCs, email discussions).
  • Desire to improve self, peers, and culture over time.
  • Ethical considerations as part of engineering.
