About the role

Atlas is hiring Field Strategists to scope multiple potential interventions addressing AI societal risks, collaborate with Founders, and coordinate with recruiters and funders. The role focuses on AI resilience, with emphasis on AI infrastructure security and epistemic security, starting in the United States with potential for global scale.

Responsibilities

  • Scope multiple potential interventions simultaneously and hand them off
  • Create write-ups describing: (a) risks to society from AI advances, (b) proposed interventions, (c) potential advisers and attestations of plausibility, (d) decision-makers who would change behavior and attestations of sufficiency, (e) likely funders and their criteria, (f) skills and experience needed in founders
  • Work with a recruiter to pitch potential founders and introduce to potential funders
  • Depending on seniority, focus on 1–2 interventions (junior) or 3–5 organizations on 3–5 month timescales (senior)
  • Provide mentorship to junior hires (optional for senior)
  • Develop and manage multiple interventions with timelines, reporting updates as needed
  • Operate primarily in the United States with potential for global scaling, while accommodating some international opportunities
  • Maintain high-trust relationships with decision-makers, practitioners, and experts to inform interventions

Qualifications

  • Expertise in navigating and/or modifying complex systems (academic, think tank policy research, market research, or intelligence community analysis)
  • Generalist able to quickly understand nuances across topics (ML architecture, export controls, ideological differences in AI)
  • Experience in cybersecurity (technical or strategic), epistemic security (technical or strategic), or related fields
  • Cross-cutting strategic planning, ARPA-like project experience, roadmapping or multi-year planning
  • Strong ability to interview experts and synthesize across domains; comfort with hypothesis-driven analysis
  • Existing high-trust relationships with decision-makers, practitioners, or insiders in relevant fields
