About the role

Senior-level firmware lead responsible for defining and delivering Crusoe's BMC firmware architecture, bring-up, security, and fleet reliability across Crusoe server platforms; build and lead a founding BMC team, partner with ODM/OEMs, and drive production readiness and platform observability.

Responsibilities

  • Define Crusoe's BMC architecture and stack strategy across current and future platforms.
  • Lead BMC bring-up on new server platforms — kernel, U-Boot, device tree, sensor management, fan and thermal control, power sequencing, host interfaces — with partner engineering teams.
  • Own the BMC build, CI/CD, signing, and release pipeline end-to-end.
  • Drive BMC security architecture: secure boot, root of trust, attestation, SPDM, signed update flows, firmware resiliency, and response to firmware CVEs.
  • Lead the BMC technical relationship with ODM and OEM partners — setting direction, aligning on scope, and shipping firmware Crusoe is proud of.
  • Author and own the BMC sections of platform requirements; drive architecture reviews and technical deep-dives with partner teams.
  • Drive prototyping, qualification, and production readiness of BMC firmware on new platforms.
  • Build out BMC-driven telemetry and observability — sensor, power, thermal, and RAS data into Crusoe Cloud's ops and SRE stack.
  • Partner with platform and production teams to investigate and resolve systemic BMC issues.
  • Define SLOs and update/rollback strategy for BMC firmware across a growing fleet.
  • Hire and grow the BMC team — defining team shape, recruiting firmware engineers, and setting engineering standards.
  • Provide data-driven input into hardware roadmap, platform selection, and reliability investments.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of firmware engineering, with deep hands-on BMC experience.
  • Hands-on expertise with at least one production BMC stack (OpenBMC, AMI MegaRAC, or equivalent).
  • Embedded Linux, U-Boot, and device tree layers underneath.
  • Experience leading BMC bring-up on new server platforms — schematics, I2C/PMBus maps, GPIOs, power sequencing.
  • Strong C/C++ on embedded Linux; proficiency in Python or shell for automation.
  • Familiarity with IPMI 2.0, Redfish, PLDM, MCTP, NC-SI.
  • Hands-on debugging across BMC-to-host interfaces: eSPI, LPC, IPMB, KCS, BT.
