About the role

Role to own Valon's external brand, starting with talent branding, combining strategy and writing to shape and tell Valon’s story to engineers, operators, designers, and other builders; act as a high-impact IC running a small newsroom inside the company to find real stories, tell them effectively, and build a repeatable storytelling system.

Responsibilities

  • Shape the story: explain what Valon is building, why it’s hard, and why a strong candidate should care; build reusable material for candidates and outside audiences, including stories and numbers.
  • Write the content: founder essays, company updates, Why I Joined stories, product/technical stories, candidate-facing material.
  • Get other people talking: build relationships with writers, podcasters, and newsletter authors; pitch coverage.
  • Help recruiting close: create sharper materials for offers, including Why Valon decks, candidate FAQs, role-specific pitch materials.
  • Decide what's worth sharing: select moments, people, and proof points to publish and in what form.
  • Build a system that lasts: establish a repeatable storytelling process with regular cadence and measurable impact.

Qualifications

  • Strong writer with good taste and sharp judgment.
  • Ability to write in different voices and across mediums; explain complex concepts clearly without oversimplifying.
  • Experience as primary or founding brand/editorial voice with tangible results; engineers/readers engaged by your work.
  • Ability to derive stories from internal material and turn them into compelling narratives for talent audiences.
  • Comfort with long-term, impact-driven branding rather than viral marketing.
