About the role

Senior R&D Software Engineer to build and ship production-grade AI-powered data infrastructure within the Fivetran AI team. Responsibilities span research, prototyping, back-end/front-end development, reliability and SRE, QA, and collaboration with product and design in a hybrid Denver, CO role.

Responsibilities

  • Research emerging techniques in retrieval, reasoning, and agentic AI, and evaluate relevance to Fivetran AI’s roadmap
  • Prototype new ideas quickly and ship production-grade features
  • Build and maintain back-end and front-end systems for the Fivetran AI product (Agents Schema pipelines to Context Catalog UI)
  • Contribute to the AISQL capability: natural language to SQL grounded in dbt metric definitions
  • Own production reliability: on-call rotation, incident response, and SRE work
  • Write and maintain tests, perform hands-on QA
  • Use coding agents to automate repetitive tasks
  • Partner with product and design to shape future work
  • Develop software designs and contribute to the technical roadmap for Fivetran AI
  • Contribute to hiring by participating in the interview process

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of programming experience across Python and/or Java
  • Trustworthy expert capable of executing complex tasks with minimal hand-holding
  • Ability to read AI/ML research and turn findings into prototypes
  • Strong product and market awareness to discern valuable techniques
  • Experience with SQL and data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, or similar)
  • Willingness to work across full stack: research, backend, frontend, SRE, QA
  • Writes well-structured, performant code and can navigate unfamiliar codebases
  • Experience using coding agents or similar AI tooling
  • Analytical mindset to identify gaps and design improvements
  • Thrives in startup-like environment with ownership
