About the role
Founding engineer role at Mesh, a YC-backed startup building governance layer for financial logic and AI-native workflows. Founding position with end-to-end ownership, working directly with founders to architect, build, and ship core platform components from first customer interactions onward.
Responsibilities
- Build financial policy engines translating accounting judgment into executable workflows
- Develop agentic systems to coordinate evidence and approvals
- Create workflow infrastructure connecting humans, AI, and enterprise systems
- Interpret spreadsheets and model policies for durable software
- Develop AI evaluation infrastructure for reliable, explainable production systems
- Build enterprise data pipelines and integrations across ERP, procurement, AP, HRIS, billing, and operations
- Develop auditability and governance tooling to explain, reproduce, and trust financial decisions
Qualifications
- Experience or interest in backend/system design and building from first principles
- Ability to own problems end-to-end from customer conversation to production
- Strong systems judgment balancing correctness, speed, maintainability, and scale
- AI-native engineering mindset and comfort working across backend, AI, and product domains
