About the role

Senior Manager leading the Product Design team responsible for dbt Labs, merging Fivetran and dbt Labs design culture and strategy, with a focus on AI-powered data products and complex technical workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the dbt product design team: manage and coach product designers across dbt platform and CLI-based products; own the full design process from problem definition and research to UX/UI and delivery.
  • Own UX strategy for dbt: define and drive UX strategy across the dbt product experience; identify high-impact opportunities and partner with Product and Engineering leadership.
  • Provide design direction for technical data products: set direction for design across complex workflows; discuss data workflows, ELT, analytics engineering, developer tools, and infrastructure-oriented experiences.
  • Shape AI and agentic product experiences: lead design strategy for AI-powered and agentic experiences; design systems for AI assistance that are understandable, useful, and safe for high-stakes technical work.
  • Help integrate Fivetran and dbt Labs design: co-create unified product experience and design culture; lead through change management and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Build an AI-native design operating model: operationalize AI across the design lifecycle with standards, workflows, and quality thresholds; establish when AI-generated work requires human oversight.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of product design experience
  • 5+ years managing product designers
  • Strong people management and cross-functional leadership skills
  • Deep care for craft with leadership focus on direction, critique, strategy, and coaching
  • Experience designing for technically complex products (ELT, data infrastructure, analytics engineering, developer tools, cloud platforms, data governance, observability)
  • Designing AI-powered or agentic product experiences; understanding AI feature vs copilot vs agentic workflows
  • Experience operationalizing AI workflows for product design at scale
  • Owning UX strategy for a meaningful product area with influence on product direction
  • Strong technical fluency to discuss complex systems and engineering tradeoffs
  • Experience designing for expert technical users (data engineers, analytics engineers, software engineers, platform teams, security)
