About the role

Role focused on embedding EHS into engineering, product development, manufacturing and other technical processes by building cross-functional relationships and scalable integration mechanisms. Drives Prevention through Design, enterprise risk management, and engineering-integration initiatives within Costa Mesa, CA with travel to sites.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Relationships and Interface: Serve as a primary EHS Integration interface to Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Product, Program Management, Quality, Facilities and Operations; partner with engineering teams to understand workflows and integrate EHS into them; identify opportunities for earlier EHS engagement; represent engineering realities to EHS; coordinate EHS technical resources on projects.
  • Prevention through Design and Design Standards: Drive implementation of Prevention through Design across product, manufacturing, equipment, facility and process development; support EHS design process integration with engineering phase gates; develop and apply enterprise EHS design standards and checklists; translate EHS requirements into usable engineering requirements; influence manufacturing decisions to reduce hazards; facilitate early hazard identification and risk-management with engineering teams and EHS SMEs; ensure operator task and human interaction considerations in design.
  • Enterprise Risk Register and Risk Assessment Process: Support development of the base model for enterprise risk register and data conventions; establish and document risk assessment processes; support risk assessment delivery across programs; drive adoption of the risk register across engineering, program and operations; use data to identify hazard patterns and translate into design standards and lessons learned.
  • Integration Mechanisms, Tooling and Adoption: Define when EHS engagement is required and what information is needed; close gaps in engineering workflows with scalable integration strategies; own technical tooling and roadmap; partner with enterprise software and data resources to integrate EHS tooling into workflows; establish feedback loops from incidents, risk assessments and audits into future designs; own a defined integration domain (e.g., Prevention through Design, enterprise risk management, Product/Manufacturing/Engineering processes) and provide leadership to EHS engineers.

Qualifications

  • - Bachelor’s degree in engineering, human factors, industrial engineering, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, systems engineering or related technical discipline
  • - Progressive experience in a design-facing technical discipline (EHS/safety engineering, human factors/ergonomics, system safety, process safety, reliability, industrial engineering or design quality) in engineering, manufacturing, defense, aerospace, semiconductor, energy or similar
  • - Experience integrating hazard analysis or risk assessment with engineering/program decision-making
  • - Demonstrated experience embedding a staff function into an engineering or product development organization
  • - Experience authoring or owning technical standards or design criteria used by engineers outside own team
  • - Strong facilitation, technical writing and relationship-building skills with ability to translate technical risk into business recommendations
  • - Evidence of building durable programs, standards, workflows or mechanisms
  • - Optional: familiarity with enterprise risk assessment methodology and design-phase safety frameworks (preferred)
  • - Optional: advanced degree or professional certification (preferred)
