About the role

Senior/Staff level role focused on building and operating the AI agent infrastructure at Nuro, including closed-loop evaluation, agent platform, and autoresearch infrastructure to enable trustworthy, autonomous agent systems at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Build the closed-loop measurement layer that determines per-workflow acceptance, reversion, or override of agent output and guide autonomy expansion or pullback.
  • Take the autoresearch loop from assisted to unattended for a bounded class of experiments, including evaluation and confidence machinery to run without a human in the loop.
  • Design the isolation and permissioning model for agents acting on production repositories and infrastructure with auditable records.
  • Contribute to agent-powered tooling across the engineering lifecycle (code generation, review, debugging, test and CI failure attribution, knowledge retrieval, triage) and potentially post-training internal model workloads.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience (or 4+ with a Master’s)
  • Deep, current taste in LLM research (training from scratch, post-training stack, RL, etc.)
  • Understanding of inference internals (attention, KV-cache, batching, quantization, decoding, context handling)
  • Experience building and operating LLM-based agent systems in production (tool use, orchestration, sandboxing, retrieval, memory)
  • Strong backend/distributed systems background (cloud infra, service design, storage, Queuing)
  • Strong Python programming skills
  • Experience with evaluation and benchmarks; ability to argue about real measurements
  • End-to-end ownership and ability to handle un-decomposed problems
  • Hands-on post-training or fine-tuning (SFT, preference optimization, RL, distillation) and evaluation
  • Experience with ML training/research infrastructure (experiments, evaluation pipelines, hyperparameter search, data pipelines)
  • Experience running inference serving, cost, or capacity at scale
  • Familiarity with agent architecture patterns (planning, reflection, long-horizon memory, multi-agent coordination)
  • Experience with open tool-integration protocols, plugin/skill frameworks, model-routing or gateway layers
  • Background in developer experience/platform engineering, observability, or security isolation
  • Go, C++, or Rust in addition to Python
