About the role

Optical Manufacturing Test Engineer specializing in validating and ensuring the quality of photonic components, modules, and systems, spanning NPI and volume manufacturing with hands-on testing, hardware test development, and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end manufacturing test ownership: ensure changes to test hardware and processes follow QMS requirements, including equipment selection, tester BOM, test schematic, test flows, and work instructions.
  • Responsible for tester documentation and specifications. Analyze test results to ensure compliance with performance specifications and quality standards.
  • Develop, assemble, validate, buy off and release the testers for production.
  • Responsible for product test yield, with quality and reliability.
  • Analyze, define, develop, and execute continuous improvement plans to achieve test yield, cycle time, throughput, and scrap reduction.
  • Collaborate with quality teams for qualification tests planning and execution.
  • Collaborate with design and process engineering to ensure DFM/DFT guidelines are met.
  • Design, plan, and conduct optical and fiber testing on components/devices/systems; perform production calibration and testing of fiber optic components and modules.
  • Maintain accurate test procedure records; generate comprehensive test reports for stakeholders.
  • Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis to resolve product issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support NPI and manufacturing ramp.
  • Work with contract manufacturers to train operators, provide test process guidelines, and approve test change orders.
  • Develop and implement troubleshooting guidelines, tools, templates, and data analysis for testers and products in manufacturing.
  • Responsible for process control of testers, including SPC, GR&R and correlation studies.
  • Collaborate with software, IT, and data teams to manage and analyze manufacturing test data at scale.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • 7 years experience in high-volume optical transceiver manufacturing and/or automated test system development for electronics and optics manufacturing
  • Experience with transceiver module tests at 400G, 800G, 1.6T is preferable
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Expert in optical test equipment and protocols for optical transceivers
  • Hands-on experience with optical test instruments (e.g., optical spectrum analyzers, power meters, polarization controllers, bit-error-rate testers)
  • In-depth knowledge of yield analysis, problem solving, and manufacturing process implementation
  • Familiarity with processor communication interfaces and test automation tools
  • Data query/analysis skills (statistical tools) is a plus
  • Experience in SPC, GR&R, tester correlation, and report generation
  • Ability to write/adapt automation scripts (Python, LabVIEW, Visual Basic; Shell scripting a plus)
  • Experience in reliability testing and quality control best practices
  • Understanding of QMS and quality standard requirements
  • Expertise in optics FA processes/tools
  • Resourceful problem-solver with cross-project management ability
  • Strong English communication and mentorship skills
  • Willingness to travel internationally
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional, geographically diverse team
