About the role

Optical Manufacturing Test Engineer responsible for validating and ensuring the quality of Lumilens’ photonic components, modules, and systems, supporting both new product introduction (NPI) and volume manufacturing through hands-on production testing, hardware test development, and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end manufacturing test ownership: ensure changes to test hardware and processes are under change control and follow QMS requirements (equipment selection/specification, tester BOM, test schematic diagram, test flows, work instructions).
  • Responsible for tester documentation and specifications. Analyze test results to ensure compliance with performance specifications and quality standards.
  • Develop, assemble, validate, buy off and release testers for production.
  • Responsible for product test yield, with quality and reliability.
  • Analyze, define, develop, and execute continuous improvement plans to improve test yield, cycle time, throughput, and scrap reduction.
  • Collaborate with quality teams for qualification tests planning/execution.
  • Collaborate with design and process engineering to meet DFM and DFT guidelines.
  • Design, plan, and conduct optical and fiber testing on components, devices, and systems; perform production calibration and testing of fiber optic components and modules.
  • Maintain accurate records of test procedures/outcomes.
  • Generate comprehensive test reports for stakeholders.
  • Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis to resolve product issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support NPI and manufacturing ramp.
  • Work with contract manufacturers to train operators, provide test process guidelines, and approve test change orders.
  • Develop and implement troubleshooting guidelines/tools/templates/data analysis for testers/products.
  • Process control of testers (SPC, GR&R, correlation studies).
  • Collaborate with software/IT/database teams to manage/analyze manufacturing test data.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • 7 years experience in high-volume optical transceiver manufacturing and/or automated test system development for electronics/optics manufacturing (preferably with 400G, 800G, 1.6T transceiver module tests)
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Expert in optical test equipment/protocols for manufacturing/design of optical transceivers
  • Hands-on experience with optical test instruments (OSA, power meters, polarization controllers, BER testers)
  • In-depth knowledge in yield analysis, problem solving, and manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with processor communication interfaces and test automation tools
  • Data query/analysis skills (a plus)
  • Experience in SPC, GR&R, tester correlation, and report generation
  • Ability to write/adapt automation scripts (Python, LabVIEW, Visual Basic; Shell scripting a plus)
  • Experience in reliability testing and quality control best practices
  • Understanding of QMS/quality standards
  • Expertise in optics FA processes/tools
  • Resourceful problem-solver; capable of managing multiple projects
  • Ability to work in geographically diverse cross-functional teams
  • Strong English communication and presentation skills; able to train/mentor peers
  • Willingness to travel internationally
