About the role

Finance Systems Analyst, Tax at Anthropic within the Tax Technology team. Responsible for day-to-day management of tax systems, including intake/triage, tax configuration, testing, data analysis, and controls evidence. Acts as the bridge between tax and IT/engineering, with potential end-to-end ownership of tax tools, jurisdictions, or products as the team grows.

Responsibilities

  • Intake & Triage: Own the queue of tax systems requests from billing support and across the tax team, from intake and triage through resolution or escalation, keeping requesters informed; help build the intake process (including Claude) as volume grows
  • Tax Configuration: Make and document tax configuration changes as products launch and footprint expands, including product taxability mapping, registrations, and exemption/refund rules; build runbooks and periodic completeness checks
  • Testing & Change Management: Design and run user acceptance testing (UAT) for tax and billing changes, maintain test evidence, and obtain tax sign-off before changes go live
  • Tax Data Analysis: Write SQL against the data warehouse to build reconciliations and tie-outs, investigate discrepancies, and answer ad hoc questions
  • Controls & Evidence: Prepare ITGC evidence and run recurring SOX and IPE evidence cycles for tax controls; support auditor walkthroughs and remediation items
  • Cross Functional Collaboration: Act as tax systems point of contact for Billing Engineering, Accounting and Product; flag tax impacts and provide the tax perspective on design questions
  • Process Improvement & AI Tools: Use Claude and other AI tools to build repeatable queries, small tools, and documentation to reduce manual tax work; ensure outputs are vetted before use

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience configuring or supporting an enterprise tax engine, tax provision tooling, or a billing/ERP system in a tax-facing role
  • Proficient in reading and writing SQL for testing and building deterministic reconciliations and tracing discrepancies
  • Ability to translate tax requirements into configuration, test cases, and clear requests for engineering teams
  • Experience owning or participating in user acceptance testing on finance systems projects (design through execution)
  • Understanding of SOX, ITGC and IPE controls; ability to produce auditor-acceptable evidence and work with external advisors
  • Cross-functional collaboration and clear communication with non-technical colleagues; able to work directly with vendors, auditors, and engineers
  • Comfort in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with evolving requirements; willingness to learn new tax areas and adapt
  • Strong prioritization and resilience when workload is high
