About the role

Network engineer for mission-critical, high-cadence launch operations and high-reliability production networks. Provides operational and design services for networks used by launch/production operations, automation & controls engineering, and facilities teams within SpaceX Mission Systems / IT Launch engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement highly available networks, balancing routing and redundancy technologies for production and launch.
  • Design and maintain mission data center and site networks in accordance with company standards; collaborate with adjacent infrastructure and enterprise teams.
  • Evaluate, procure, and deploy network hardware including switches, firewalls, multiplexing and SDWAN appliances.
  • Contribute to network automation tooling; implement configuration analysis, linting, and scalability into the deployment framework.
  • Plan and coordinate network outage windows for software updates, hardware refreshes, and maintenance (sometimes weekends/evenings).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues; publish root cause analysis (RCA) and host retrospective reviews.
  • Provide direct networking support during launch/test campaigns and be on-call during operations.
  • Tailor network monitoring to improve operational telemetry and early issue detection.
  • Create and update network documentation (architecture, design drawings, procedures).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve potential technical issues, focusing on systemic failure modes and redundancy.
  • Perform job walks with customers, vendors, and contractors to gather requirements and create implementation plans.
  • Ensure networks comply with industry and cybersecurity standards (ITAR, ISO, NIST) with emphasis on segmentation and security.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other STEM discipline and 3+ years of professional network engineering experience; OR 5+ years of professional network engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
