About the role
Senior Manager, Utility Contracts within Crusoe's Energy Development Group (EDG) responsible for the full lifecycle of utility infrastructure agreements across Crusoe's data center portfolio, including negotiation, obligation management, compliance, construction-related contracts, cross-functional coordination, and executive reporting.
Responsibilities
- Utility Agreement Negotiation: Lead the negotiation of utility infrastructure agreements for new and existing data center campuses - construction agreements, operating agreements, transfer agreements, and amendments - in coordination with EDG commercial leads, outside counsel, and utility counterparties.
- Obligation Management: Own the responsibility matrix for each project's agreement stack: every obligation tracked with its contractual cite, deadline, owner, and status. Run the monthly deadline review, drive early escalation of at-risk items, and ensure recurring obligations (reports, forecasts, certifications, payments) are met.
- Utility Requirements & Compliance: Serve as EDG's authority on utility requirements - tariff provisions, end-user connection requirements, metering and interconnection specifications, Good Utility Practice, and NERC / RTO reliability obligations for large loads; translate them into actionable requirements for engineering and operations teams.
- Construction agreements: Manage the contractual side of customer-build programs - design package submittals, procurement compliance against utility approved lists, commissioning and title transfer sequencing, easement and land-rights deliverables, and closeout obligations with EPC fluency.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Act as connective tissue between EDG, Real Estate, Power Engineering, Legal, Finance, and data center tenants on all utility agreement-related matters.
- Executive Reporting: Provide leadership with clear, current visibility into obligation status, upcoming deadlines, counterparty performance, and contract risks across the portfolio.
Qualifications
- 8+ years in the electric utility sector, or negotiating/managing utility agreements for large customers or developers; experience with large-load interconnection, energy service/electric service agreements, and utility construction agreements.
- Strong command of utility tariffs, end-user connection requirements, interconnection processes, metering standards, and reliability obligations (NERC, RTO/ISO like MISO, ERCOT, CAISO).
- Hands-on familiarity with EPC lifecycle (design reviews, procurement standards, commissioning, project closeout).
- Demonstrated success in negotiating complex infrastructure agreements with utility counterparties.
- Exceptional organization and attention to detail; ability to manage obligations without relying on memory.
- Ability to translate contract language into actionable tasks for engineers, real estate, finance, and executives; credible with utility commercial/legal teams.
- Location: Dallas, TX or San Francisco, CA (based in or willing to relocate).
