About the role

Embedded engineering role inside Coinbase's Office of the CTO within Compliance. Build and drive automation and AI-powered tooling for regulatory workflows, acting as a bridge between Compliance stakeholders and the engineering team maintaining Coinbase's AI platform.

Responsibilities

  • Embed with Compliance leadership and frontline teams to surface automation opportunities across transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, regulatory change management, and exam preparation.
  • Prototype quickly using Coinbase's AI platform and recommend net-new builds when needed.
  • Own the Compliance automation roadmap in partnership with the Chief Compliance Officer and Compliance leadership, translating regulatory workflows into engineering requirements and constraints.
  • Define the build-vs-buy strategy for Compliance tooling (build internally, adopt from partners, procure from vendors, or retire).
  • Ensure automated outputs are traceable, reviewable, and defensible to regulators with auditability, approval gates, evidence retention, and human-in-the-loop controls.
  • Drive adoption through brown-bags, prototype walkthroughs, and feedback loops to ensure tools are used by Compliance teams.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of shipping production systems in stakeholder-heavy environments (greenfield experience a strong plus).
  • Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications, including prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, hallucination guardrails, and human-in-the-loop design for high-stakes compliance outputs.
  • Ability to embed with non-technical domain experts and translate complex workflows into engineering requirements.
  • Familiarity with compliance and regulatory systems concepts: transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, regulatory filing workflows, case management, and audit-ready data handling.
  • Familiarity with multi-agent orchestration concepts including handoffs, escalation, and auditability.
  • Experience in Forward Deployed Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or embedded technical advisory roles, preferably in compliance-tech, RegTech, or financial services.
  • Commitment to responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and measurable improvements.
