About the role
Odyssey is seeking a deeply technical staff member focused on world models, video generation, multimodal learning, and adjacent areas to push the boundaries of controllable generation and real-world applicability. The role blends research and engineering to move ideas from hypothesis to working prototypes and deployable systems.
Responsibilities
- - Push what world models can do past current diffusion and transformer approaches with emphasis on conditioning and control (new architectures, training paradigms, or representations of time/dynamics/interactions).
- - Train conditioning methods and control policies for generation (action, camera, physics, style, long-horizon consistency).
- - Take ideas from hypothesis through experiment to working prototype grounded in concrete applications.
- - Design and run experiments, distributed training, and inference systems; ship results into models touched by real users.
- - Define what "controllable" means in measurable terms; build evaluations for real applications and not just held-out sets.
- - Work across research, engineering, and product with ownership recognized across teams.
- - Contribute to the lab’s scientific and engineering culture: publishing where it matters, building enduring tooling, and engaging with the broader community.
Qualifications
- - Deeply technical background with a track record in world models, generative modeling, video, multimodal learning, large-scale ML systems, or adjacent areas.
- - Experience with conditioning, controllability, or learned control policies is a strong signal.
- - Originated impactful work or shipped systems at scale, or both.
- - Comfortable operating from first principles: problem-definition, experimental design, and minimal viable system to prove feasibility.
- - Fluent from research to application, ensuring models work under real constraints, content, and latency.
- - Energetic about ambiguity and creating tools/frameworks in uncharted areas.
- - Clear perspective on future direction of the field and ability to defend it (not simply “bigger model, more compute”).
- - Thrive in small, autonomous, tightly collaborating teams.
