About the role

Senior backend/platform engineer role on the Connectivity team, focused on building and operating the core connectivity infrastructure (MCP proxy, OAuth/token management, admin controls) to enable safe, enterprise-grade access for external tools and integrations across Anthropic products.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate the core connectivity infrastructure behind external tool calls — the MCP proxy and the OAuth and token management systems that keep connections authenticated.
  • Own reliability for infrastructure that other teams and external partners depend on, including SLOs, on-call, incident response, and postmortems.
  • Build admin controls and permission models for enterprise IT governance of agent capabilities.
  • Contribute to the MCP standard and ecosystem, including the spec and the official Python and TypeScript SDKs.
  • Turn ambiguous outcomes into shipped, scoped work, and dogfood what you build in products that consume it.
  • Independently scope complex, multi-month projects, drive cross-org alignment, and make architectural decisions that scale Anthropic products.
  • Partner with research to productize cutting-edge capabilities and impact the platform used by many companies and engineers.

Qualifications

  • - Experience as a backend or platform engineer
  • - Familiarity with using AI tools as part of the software development process
  • - Product-focused approach to platform work; robustness, scalability, and usability
  • - Full ownership mindset from design to deployment and operations
  • - Ability to navigate ambiguity and make independent technical decisions (0→1 and mature team contexts)
  • - Experience operating production distributed systems with reliability and incident response at scale
  • - Excellent communication skills for cross-team collaboration across time zones
