About the role

Mechanical Designer responsible for fluid/HVAC systems across SpaceX campus, including design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing of HVAC, compressed air, piping, and dust collection components for HQ facilities in Hawthorne, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Own and act as subject matter expert on fluid/HVAC components across campus – compressors, heat exchangers, pumps, valves and dust collection systems.
  • Perform CAD modeling and design of these systems.
  • Perform fluid analyses for pressure balance, component design allowable, and consumables determination.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary customers to ensure components meet production, avionics, GNC, mission operations and other SpaceX program requirements.
  • Ensure designs are manufacturable and reliable; coordinate with production to enable smooth transition to reliable manufacturing processes with minimal sustainment.
  • Material selection, sizing and procurement support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years of professional experience working with fluids components such as valves, pumps, COPVs, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure transducers, or temperature sensors.
