About the role

Software engineer focused on diagnosing and fixing field-reported anomalies in autonomous undersea vehicles, with emphasis on cross-subsystem fluency, reproducible debugging, hardware-in-the-loop validation, and contributing to subsystem roadmaps.

Responsibilities

  • Take field-reported anomalies and determine the actual subsystem involved, not just where reported.
  • Reproduce issues with real data and live pipelines, using visualization tools to reconstruct states at failure.
  • Use existing metrics and logs to understand system state at failure moments.
  • Confirm fixes in simulated environments, hardware-in-the-loop when needed, before deployment to real vehicles.
  • Write fixes in the subsystem's native language (Rust, C++, Python, Go, etc.) with tests and through CI and standard rollout.
  • Identify root cause, whether bug, bad config, or deployment mismatch, and fix at the correct layer.
  • Document root cause and fix for each closed issue to support long-term reliability; contribute to on-call/triage runbooks.
  • Push back to owning teams when systemic changes are required, not just patching symptoms.

Qualifications

  • Real experience debugging code under time pressure with incomplete information.
  • Comfort in at least two of Rust, modern C++, Python, Go to read and fix bugs.
  • Systems-debugging instincts: pull logs and metrics, reconstruct events, reproduce offline from recorded data.
  • Exposure to observability tooling (Prometheus/Grafana-class metrics, Loki/ELK-class logs).
  • Linux and systems fluency; bonus for declarative/immutable OS setups (NixOS-style).
  • Ability to clearly describe what happened without padding; focus on root cause.
  • Willingness to work near hardware and sensors; maritime/robotics background not required.
  • Willingness to travel 25%+ of the time.

Skills

Benefits
