Anduril· Maritime & Maneuver Dominance : Undersea Reconnaissance & Strike - Engineering & Operations
Quincy, MA$166k - $220kfull-timePosted 2mo ago
About the role
Reliability Engineer role at Anduril Maritime focused on debugging field-reported anomalies in autonomous underwater/surface vehicles, reproducing issues, identifying root causes, and shipping fixes across subsystems with a strong emphasis on observability, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and cross-subsystem ownership.
Responsibilities
- Take field-reported anomalies (sensor stopped publishing, mission faulted mid-track, data stream drift) and determine the actual subsystem involved, not just where reported.
- Reproduce issues in real hardware-in-the-loop or simulated environments; replay recorded sensor/mission data through live pipeline and visualize results.
- Utilize per-service metrics, dashboards, and centralized logs to reconstruct system state at the time of failure.
- Confirm fixes in simulated or hardware-in-the-loop environments before deployment to real vehicles.
- Write fixes in the appropriate subsystem language (Rust, C++, Python, Go, etc.) with tests, via CI, and through standard versioned rollout.
- Determine whether the root cause is a bug, bad config, or deployment mismatch, and fix at the correct layer.
- Document root cause and fix for every closed issue to inform long-term reliability and test coverage.
- Provide feedback to ownership teams and push back when a system-wide change is required rather than patching symptoms.
Qualifications
- Real experience debugging code under time pressure with incomplete information.
- Comfort with at least two of Rust, modern C++, Python, Go; ability to read and fix bugs in one you know less well.
- Systems-debugging instincts: pull logs and metrics, reconstruct incidents, offline reproduction from recorded data.
- Exposure to observability tooling (Prometheus/Grafana-class metrics, Loki/ELK-class logs).
- Linux and systems fluency; bonus for declarative/immutable OS setups (NixOS-style).
- Ability to clearly write up what happened and the root cause without padding.
- Willingness to work close to hardware and sensors, even without maritime/robotics domain background.
- Willingness to travel 25%+ of the time.
Skills
Required:Debugging under time pressureMulti-language debugging (Rust, C++, Python, Go)
Benefits
- Comprehensive, competitive benefits package (health, recovery, and more).
- Top-tier benefits for full-time employees available at little to no cost.
