Hybrid (United States)$320k - $405kfull-timePosted 2mo ago
About the role
Lead role owning energy availability across Anthropic's non-cloud data center portfolio, coordinating energy scheduling, forecasting, and risk management with energy suppliers, site operations, and finance.
Responsibilities
- Own the live view of energy availability risk and need: contracted, available, and committed energy and capacity at each site against planned load and ramp, by month and by hour where it matters; keep it current as deals sign, sites come online, and plans change, and close gaps and use surpluses with workload and site planning and energy origination.
- Be the operational counterpart to LSEs, QSEs, scheduling coordinators, and retail/wholesale suppliers in domestic ISO/RTOs (including ERCOT) and international power markets; manage participation in utility and ISO market programs.
- Predict and track curtailment for each site, navigate shortage pricing and reliability events, coordinate load response with site operations and workload planning, and track performance, compensation, and cost.
- Oversee the portfolio's contracted or tariff-based load-flexibility and contribution to ratepayer protection; work with workload planning on compute flexibility and commit only where supported by the workload plan.
- Manage counterparty performance and Anthropic's exposure under ESAs for first operating sites; understand ESAs and utility load agreements to operate scheduling, curtailment, availability, flexibility, and ratepayer-protection terms; partner with legal and energy origination for operability of new agreements.
- Determine gas needs for the portfolio and build gas scheduling strategy for behind-the-meter supply, nominations, hub/index pricing, pipeline capacity, outages, and external partner relationships.
- Build energy forecasting as an instrument of availability-risk view: site consumption, ramp, cost against ESA/PPA terms, market and gas prices; provide inputs for Finance, Accounting, and Procurement Ops; track market information (ISO/RTO prices, scarcity, gas hub prices, etc.) and reflect it in the view.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with energy finance, data center operations, workload planning, site planning, engineering, legal, and procurement; build and own processes, data, and tooling; work with metering, telemetry, and load data to ground forecasts and settlements in measured consumption.
Qualifications
- 8+ years in energy markets, power scheduling, energy procurement, or utility/retail energy operations; hands-on scheduling and settlement review in ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, MISO, or another ISO/RTO market
- Experience with LSEs, QSEs, scheduling coordinators, retail energy providers, or load-management desks; knowledge of day-ahead and real-time scheduling, settlements, and curtailment/demand-response programs
- Ability to read ESAs, PPAs, and utility large-load interconnection/service agreements; operate scheduling, availability, curtailment, and pricing terms; model exposure
- Experience predicting curtailment and navigating ISO scarcity pricing and reliability events
- Understanding of gas scheduling (nominations, hub pricing, pipeline constraints) and impact of gas-fired outages
- Experience designing/operating load flexibility (curtailment, demand response, non-firm/interconnection) and knowledge of large-load tariff provisions
- Experience building/run energy consumption and cost forecasts for large loads and tying forecasts to contract terms and market prices
- Strong cross-functional coordination across teams (workload planning, site operations, finance, legal, origination); ability to build processes, data, and tooling
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, energy, finance, data science or equivalent practical experience
Skills
Required:Energy market knowledge (ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, MISO, ISO/RTO markets)Gas scheduling and behind-the-meter gas supplyEnergy forecasting and modelingStakeholder collaboration
