Product Counsel

About the role
Product Counsel to help legal move at the speed the product ships: clearing features before they go live, making privacy true inside the product, and building AI tools to scale legal. Focus on privacy, AI compliance, consumer-facing terms, and automation.
Responsibilities
- Embed with product and engineering: review features, integrations, and launches before they ship; decide what clears, blocks, or ships with a fix.
- Handle privacy and AI issues inside the product: data use in new features, consent and disclosure mechanics, opt-out and deletion controls that work end-to-end.
- Own product-facing terms: feature and beta terms, program terms (partners, freelancers), and user-facing communications when products change or sunset; contribute to Terms of Service changes.
- Run our AI compliance mechanics: track EU AI Act transparency and content-marking duties, map obligations against the product roadmap, support model provider negotiations (retention caps and training bans).
- Answer consumer and platform questions at scale: marketing claims, consumer protection across the EEA and US, user-generated content and moderation, liability for what users build and publish.
- Back up commercial in enterprise deals: own standard answers on training, retention, IP ownership, hosting liability; join customer calls.
- Build systems, not queues: self-serve guidance, launch checklists, AI agents for repeatable reviews; develop in-house legal tooling; heavy daily AI use is the default.
Qualifications
- Law degree and qualification in a major jurisdiction (EU member state, UK, or US)
- 3 to 6 years of practice, including counseling product or technology teams at consumer-facing tech or SaaS company (in-house or through secondment)
- Experience clearing products that millions use under real deadlines; ability to discuss risk calls (one cleared, one blocked, one fixed)
- GDPR and privacy fluency in live product settings (consent, data use, deletion); experience with AI legal questions (training data, provider terms, transparency duties)
- Experience writing terms that hold against millions of users; consumer protection, content, and intermediary liability knowledge
- Ability to work with 70% information and propose changes; preference for pragmatic, memo-light communication
- Automation mindset with use of AI tools; willingness to automate repeatable tasks
- High energy, fast to learn; comfortable with changing priorities weekly
- Location: Stockholm (on-site); relocation supported; occasional US-hours overlap; English fluent; Swedish not required
