About the role

Controller at LanceDB responsible for owning the accounting function, building the financial infrastructure, and partnering with leadership to deliver reliable close, strong controls, and timely financial information.

Responsibilities

  • Own accounting operations: lead day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, accruals, prepaids, and general ledger management.
  • Lead financial close and reporting: own monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and prepare financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Own financial systems and infrastructure: manage the ERP and integrations, focusing on scalability, accuracy, automation, and efficiency.
  • Manage tax and compliance: oversee corporate income tax, sales/use tax, payroll tax, and other tax/licensing requirements with external advisors.
  • Scale the accounting function: prepare for fundraising, audit requirements, and international expansion by establishing scalable processes and reporting infrastructure.
  • Partner with leadership: act as a trusted financial partner to the CFO and executives, translating accounting issues into actionable business recommendations.
  • Build and lead the accounting team: hire, develop, and retain the accounting team, manage outsourced accounting, and mentor the team.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally at a high-growth technology or SaaS company.
  • Proven track record of building accounting functions, systems, processes, and controls from the ground up and scaling them.
  • Strong technical accounting foundation and deep understanding of US GAAP.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and collaborative environment.
  • Strong business judgment and balance of strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with Legal, People, Operations and executive leadership.
  • Experience hiring, developing and managing an accounting team.
  • Passion for building strong foundations and relationships that enable a company to scale.
