About the role

Facilities Mechanical Engineer to support Arsenal 1 campus; expert for campus mechanical infrastructure from central utility plants to building-level HVAC, compressed air, and process utilities; leads commissioning, preventive maintenance, and collaborates with construction, controls, and external contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the safe operation, reliability, and maintenance of the campus mechanical infrastructure, including central utility plants, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, air handling systems (AHUs, MAUs, RTUs), compressed air, process exhaust, and industrial piping networks.
  • Develop, implement, and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs for critical mechanical assets (e.g., vibration analysis, oil/fluid analysis, dynamic balancing, water treatment, and filter management).
  • Provide engineering review and on-site support across the full lifecycle of campus construction projects (design review, submittals, RFIs, and punch walks) to ensure mechanical installations meet local codes, energy standards, and design intent.
  • Lead the commissioning, startup, test and balance (TAB), and acceptance testing of critical mechanical equipment and Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS).
  • Conduct heating and cooling load studies, airflow/psychrometric analysis, and utility capacity planning to support dynamic, changing manufacturing and testing operations.
  • Serve as a campus champion for mechanical, refrigerant, and pressure safety, supporting compliance with EPA Section 608, ASME codes, and mechanical Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Optimize Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS) sequences of operation to drive system resilience, operational efficiency, and environmental stability.
  • Collaborate with municipal utility providers on natural gas, domestic water, and industrial wastewater services and compliance.
  • Manage external mechanical contractors, TAB agencies, controls integrators, and engineering consultants during maintenance turnarounds, outages, and capital improvement projects.

Qualifications

  • Experience in mechanical engineering, facilities engineering, or building systems commissioning.
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting central utility plants (chillers, boilers, cooling towers), industrial HVAC systems, compressed air, and process piping.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical maintenance practices, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, psychrometrics, and testing standards.
  • Familiarity with the construction lifecycle, including design reviews, submittals, RFIs, and on-site field engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience commissioning critical mechanical systems, air/hydronic balancing, and Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS).
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including International Mechanical Code (IMC), International Plumbing Code (IPC), ASHRAE standards (e.g., 90.1, 62.1, 55), ASME, and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, ductwork layouts, and controls Sequences of Operation (SOO).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate complex utility shutdowns with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Ability and willingness to handle emergencies and planned maintenance outages outside of normal working hours.
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.
